Tomorrowland’s Symphony of Unity prepares debut orchestral album
Tomorrowland’s unique Symphony of Unity orchestra is preparing to release its first official album later this year, bringing the festival’s famous orchestral electronic music performances to listeners around the world.
The Symphony of Unity is one of Tomorrowland’s most distinctive live shows, combining a full classical orchestra with iconic electronic dance music. During the performance, well-known EDM tracks are transformed into orchestral arrangements, blending classical instrumentation with the energy of festival music.
Album announcement
The upcoming release will mark the first official album from the Symphony of Unity project. According to orchestra members, the album will feature several orchestral interpretations of legendary dance tracks that have become highlights of the Tomorrowland experience.
Harpist Lise Vandersmissen revealed that the musicians and creative team have been working extensively on the project.
She explained that the orchestra and production team have invested a great deal of time into arranging and recording the music, and that they are excited to finally share the result with fans later this year.
A special Tomorrowland concept
The Symphony of Unity concept first appeared in 2015, when the Belgian National Orchestra performed a special show at Tomorrowland in Boom, Belgium. The performance introduced a new way of experiencing electronic music by translating festival anthems into powerful orchestral arrangements.
Following the positive response from fans, the show returned in 2019 with multiple performances during Tomorrowland and additional concerts at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, this time featuring musicians from the Metropole Orchestra Academy.
Performances during Tomorrowland
For the 2025 edition of Tomorrowland, the Symphony of Unity will once again perform at the festival’s Freedom Stage. The orchestra will appear twice on each Saturday of the two festival weekends, delivering hour-long performances filled with orchestral versions of electronic music classics.
In addition to the festival performances, special closing concerts will also take place at the Vaudeville Theatre in Brussels, offering fans another opportunity to experience the unique show in a more intimate setting.
Behind the music
Creating a Symphony of Unity performance requires extensive collaboration between musicians and arrangers. A dedicated creative team selects the tracks and converts them into orchestral compositions, distributing the parts for each instrument in the orchestra.
Musicians first study their sections individually before coming together for several days of rehearsals, where everything is brought together under the direction of conductor Kevin Houben.
Energy between orchestra and crowd
For many classical musicians involved in the project, performing at a festival like Tomorrowland is a completely different experience from traditional concert halls.
Violinist Ruben described the interaction with the audience as one of the most exciting parts of the performance. According to him, the direct energy exchange between the crowd and the orchestra creates a unique atmosphere that makes the show truly special.
Freedom Stage redesign
Alongside the Symphony of Unity performances, Tomorrowland’s Freedom Stage also received a visual redesign for the festival edition, further enhancing the immersive experience for visitors attending the orchestral shows.
With the upcoming album release and a series of live performances scheduled, the Symphony of Unity continues to showcase how classical music and electronic dance music can merge into a powerful live experience.
