Belgian techno DJ Charlotte de Witte has cancelled two upcoming performances in Australia due to escalating geopolitical tensions affecting international air travel.
The artist was scheduled to perform in Sydney on Friday followed by a major appearance at the Pitch Music & Arts Festival in Melbourne on Saturday. Both performances have now been officially cancelled.
In a statement shared on social media, De Witte explained that safety concerns surrounding international travel made it impossible for her and her team to reach Australia.
“Due to the recent escalation of conflicts and drone attacks in the Middle East, it is currently not possible for my team and I to travel risk-free,” the DJ stated.
She emphasized that the decision was not taken lightly and expressed disappointment about missing the performances.
Despite the cancellation, the techno artist reassured Australian fans that she hopes to return soon.
“We are currently working on rescheduling the Sydney show and finding an alternative event in Melbourne later this year,” she said.
Festival Travel Disruptions
Organizers of the Pitch Music & Arts Festival confirmed that the situation in the Middle East has significantly impacted international travel routes for artists.
According to the festival, 27 acts were affected by disrupted flight paths caused by airspace restrictions and rerouted flights.
While organizers managed to find solutions for most artists, two acts were ultimately unable to travel. Alongside De Witte, German producer Sedef Adasï was also forced to cancel her appearance.
